Can neuroscience explain consciousness? To address this question, The University of Arizona has sponsored conferences "Toward a Science of Consciousness" in 1994 and 1996 (and to be held again in 1998). The university has also sponsored other activities in collaboration with the Journal of Consciousness Studies, and with expert guidance by an international committee (http://www.consciousness.arizona.edu). With support from the Fetzer Institute, we offer a satellite symposium which we hope will become an annual gathering.
