Jeffery Martin is the director of the Center for the Study of Non-Symbolic Consciousness, which focuses on empirical research into non-symbolic experiences. He believes that claims made by individuals who self report various forms of persistent non-symbolic experiences (enlightenment, nonduality, mystical and unitive states, etc.)  can be tested using standard psychological research methods, and may lead to groundbreaking discoveries in the area of consciousness studies.
