Richard Brown CUNY Laguardia College New York Richard Brown (PhD 2008 The Graduate Center, CUNY) is Professor of Philosophy and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Laguardia Community College of the City University of New York. His work is focused on the philosophy of mind, empirically informed consciousness studies, and the foundations of cognitive science.

I am a philosopher at the City University of New York. In particular I am a Professor in the Philosophy Program and an Adjunct Professor in the Psychology Program at LaGuardia Community College (for more on philosophy at LaGuardia see see the NPR story on our program). I am also a member of the NYU Project on Space, Time, and Consciousness. This project is sponsored by the NYU Global Institute for Advanced Studies and is directed by David Chalmers I earned my Ph.D. in Philosophy with a concentration in Cognitive Science from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2008. My work is focused on the philosophy of mind, consciousness studies, and the foundations of cognitive science but I also have interests and projects in the philosophy of language, metaethics, philosophy of physics, logic and the philosophy of logic, as well as the history of philosophy. From 2002-2003 I was at the University of Connecticut, where I earned my M.A. in Philosophy (and did some work in the Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory led by James Chrobak), and from 2000-2002 I was at San Francisco State University where I worked in the Cognitive Psychophysiology Laboratory led by Mark Geisler and completed all requirements for the M.A. in Psychology with a concentration in Physiological Psychology (while officially enrolled in the philosophy program).
